vain without the Lord

Psalm 127

v1

Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh [but] in vain.

Everything is vain without the Lord. What would we have to look forward to? But with the Lord, our work is not in vain.

From: Bringing in the Sheaves

By Knowles Shaw, 1874 and George Minor, 1880
Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
