the patient in spirit

How good is the God we adore,
Our faithful unchangeable Friend!
His love is as great as His power,
And knows neither measure nor end!

’Tis Jesus the First and the Last,
Whose Spirit shall Guide us safe home,
We’ll praise Him for all that is past,
And trust Him for all that’s to come.

From: How Good Is the God We Adore
By Joseph Hart, 1759 and in Lancashire Sunday School Songs, 1857

Ecclesiastes 7

v8

Better [is] the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit.

When we're tempted to be angry, we should remember that the end of the situation is going to be better. We should be patient.
