1 Peter 1 - Key

v6

Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

We could have a hard time for a while, for example, from having a lot of hard work to do, and being busy, tired, or sick, or from other people giving us a hard time. We might be tempted to respond by complaining, acting angrily to other people, or being sinfully selfish. Instead, we should greatly rejoice in our salvation, by believing in the Lord, calling on Him, and loving others.

v15,16

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

None of these bad things that we see around us in the world and struggle with will last, but we have an everlasting hope and inheritance in the Lord.

v24,25

For all flesh [is] as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Application

When I'm having a hard time and all kinds of temptations, I'll have faith and hope in the Lord to pursue holiness and love others. When I'm tempted to think that it won't do any good to do what's right, I'll remember that it's the things of the Lord that will last, not the things of the world, and so I'll remember that I'll actually end up having more joy by doing what's right.
