to try them, and to purge

Daniel 11

v35

And [some] of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make [them] white, [even] to the time of the end: because [it is] yet for a time appointed.

This chapter tells about how Greece would split into four different kingdoms, one for each compass direction. It tells about the battles between the kings of the northern kingdom and the kings of the southern kingdom. The last king of the north (the beast, #666) will temporarily ("for a time appointed") be able to persecute and kill the believers ("them of understanding.")

We should patiently endure hard times for the Lord, because they are just temporary.
