1 John 5 - Key

v3

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

The Lord doesn't want us to do things to make ourselves miserable so that we can feel like we're good people. He wants us to delight in Him.

His commandment is to love His people, our brethren. What's so miserable about that?

Application

2 Corinthians 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, [so let him give]; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

It's fine to serve the Lord in an enjoyable way; more unpleasant does not necessarily mean more godly. I'll work on delighting in the Lord when I do things to serve Him, like Bible study, outreach, and prayer.
