For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
We can't have any goodness in the Lord's sight by trying to follow the letter of the law. The law of God, in the Old Testament, was given to the Jews to point people forward to Christ. It shows us that we, ourselves, can't be good enough in the sight of the Lord. Jesus fulfilled the law, so that now, by trusting in Him, we can be forgiven and made right in the sight of the Lord.
