And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,
Joseph's brothers were afraid of what Joseph would do to them because of the money that they had found refunded in their belongings. They thought it would be better to go try to tell the truth and make peace with the delegate, first. This reminds me of this verse in Matthew:
Matthew 5:25Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
We should be willing to humble ourselves to people who seem less important to us, otherwise we could suddenly get in bigger trouble with more important people :)
